Latest Updates from Our Project:

Heck Yes! We're totally funded!
about 3 years ago – Sat, May 01, 2021 at 10:16:54 AM

Thank you all so much for helping us make this project a reality! We're so excited that it's officially funded! We have been planning some stretch goals so I'm glad we can share those with you.

Our first stretch goal will not only be getting our artists more money for their hard work but we'd also love to add a spot gloss to the cover.  If we reach $12,500 we'll have enough to cover a page rate raise for everyone plus the fancy addition of spot gloss on the cover!

Since our mandate is supporting artists, we want to pour as much extra funding as possible back to them.  If we can reach our second stretch goal, $16,000, we'd like to pay our artists a little more per page.

If we can make it to our third stretch goal of $20,000, once again we'd like to give back again to our artists by given them another page rate raise.

Thanks again so much for all your kind words and support throughout this campaign, and please don't forget to like and share this campaign!

We've come a long way and we're almost there! 90% Update.
about 3 years ago – Sat, May 01, 2021 at 10:16:20 AM

Hi everyone!

Last night we hit 90% and we're so excited!  To honor this milestone within our campaign, I've put together some exclusive content straight from my co-editor, Bevan Thomas, and the artist on his story, Devin Rosychuk .

Selecting My Story for Through the Labyrinths of the Mind

by Bevan Thomas

After I put together the general plan of Through the Labyrinths of the Mind, I had to figure out what my own story would be. I knew many people would be contributing memoirs, so I wanted to do something different. Something that would reflect my struggles with self-destructive depression in a way that would be unusual yet personal. I'd been getting really into Welsh folklore, exploring my own cultural heritage through various writing projects, and I remembered the legend of Geraint, one of King Arthur's knights. Geraint is forced to forsake his knightly lifestyle in order to run his family's kingdom. Being a knight is so fundamental to Geraint's identity that its loss plunges him into a deep depression. No one, not even Geraint's wife, can understand why he abandons his kingly duties, withdraws into himself, and eventually seeks to die.

I was shocked by how this medieval story is imbued with such startling psychological realism. Geraint isn't some stereotypically perfect Knight of the Round Table but an emotionally vulnerable man tormented by how much he fails to live up to an ideal. Geraint's legend showed me how universal my own psychic pain is, how people in every time period have wrestled with depression and self-loathing, felt their sense of self shatter in an emotional storm. The story is especially potent for me because it's from my own ancestors. It was like they were telling me “You came from us. We felt what you feel. You are not alone.” I wanted to honor that recognition, and that's why I adapted Geraint's legend as my comic for Labyrinth. Devin Rosychuk has proved the perfect choice for artist. His beautifully detailed fantasy illustrations are full of both dynamic energy and melancholy loss, and they perfectly capture Geraint's troubled spirit.

Here's a page out of Bevan's comic, illustrated by Devin Rosychuk.

Thanks, everyone for your support, we really appreciate it! If you haven't yet, please share our campaign with your family, friends, and followers! Your mentions on social media have directly lead to new pledges, it helps us out a lot!

All of us here at Cloudscape Comics are so excited to see how well this project is doing.  Mental health is something that's so important, especially with what's going on in the world right now with COVID-19 and we're happy to see this project is resonating with people.  I have a few orders of business I'd like to go over because we've got some fun things to share with you.

First, would this book make a perfect gift for someone you know? Now you can Add-On additional copies of Through the Labyrinths of the Mind.  When you make a pledge or change a pledge, you'll be taken to the add-on page where you can find this reward option.

Second, we're doing a special Through the Labyrinths of the Mind live stream on our Twitch Channel!
